I’m Eko Yulist — your guide on this journey
I was born and raised in Central Java. As a photographer, I’ve spent years exploring this island — its volcanoes, jungles, and quiet villages. Some of my work has been featured by BBC journalists and other international platforms.
In this trip, I’ll take you along the hidden trails where the jungle meets the lava slopes, where ancient temples sleep in the morning mist, and where farmers still walk the old mountain paths.
With me, you won’t just see Java — you’ll feel its spirit and rhythm. Let's go!

Central Java Expedition — 10 Days of Discovery
Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Borobudur

  • Welcome to Java! We arrive in the Borobudur area and settle into cozy bungalows surrounded by rice terraces. After the road — time to relax and feel the rhythm of the island.
  • Welcome Dinner. Over a dinner of authentic local cuisine, we’ll discuss the journey ahead, connect with fellow travelers, and tune into the expedition’s frequency.
Day 2 – Sunrise at Borobudur & Village Life

  • Sunrise over the Temple. Early wake-up (around 4:30) to witness the dawn above the world’s largest Buddhist monument. After this magic moment, we will explore the temple's stone galleries and ancient carvings.
  • Your Morning. After breakfast, you choose the pace. Relax by the pool, or take a bicycle to find small village workshops where locals make palm sugar.
  • Village Experience. Visit a traditional Javanese hoouse, taste local dishes, and see everyday life unchanged for generations.
  • Evening. Dinner overlooking rice fields at the foot of Borobudur.
Day 3 – Java’s Answer to Nepal

  • Morning Trek. We go to a village called the "Nepal of Java." You will see houses on steep hills, green vegetable fields, and volcanoes on the horizon.
  • Breakfast in the Valley. A simple meal surrounded by nature.
  • To the Highlands. We drive up to the Wonosobo area and the Dieng Plateau. The air here is fresh and cool.
  • Dinner. Local mountain specialties. We rest early, gathering our strength for the summit.
Day 4 – Cradle of Volcanoes

  • Sunrise Hike. We start at 2:30 AM. It’s a 5-hour walk (up and down) to reach the top at 2,365 meters. The reward is a huge view of the volcanoes as they wake up :)
  • An Easier Way. If you want to save energy, we have a beautiful viewpoint that you can reach easily without a long hike.
  • Relax. After the walk, we rest. If you still have energy, we can visit the green tea plantations in the clouds.
  • Back to the City. We move to Prambanan.
Day 5 – Prambanan & Java’s Horizon

  • Slow Morning. Enjoy a quiet morning in the city or take a bike ride through rice fields to find hidden ancient temples.
  • Prambanan Temple. Afternoon visit to Java’s grand Hindu temple complex with its towering spires and stone carvings.
  • Dinner with a View. Hilltop restaurant overlooking the volcano and temple complex.
Day 6 – Merapi & the Taste of Java

  • Breakfast near Merapi. We travel to the foot of Mount Merapi, one of the most active volcanoes on Earth
  • Living Heritage & Jamu Elixir. We explore the Old Town and taste the legendary Jamu. This isn’t just a drink; it’s a UNESCO-protected system of herbal healing. We’ll learn the recipes that have kept Javanese families healthy for generations.
Day 7 – “Heaven’s Light” & the Ocean

  • Jomblang Cave. We descend 60 meters down on ropes into a huge cave. Deep inside, you will see a "Heavenly Light" shining through the roof onto an underground forest. A true natural wonder of Java, often shown by National Geographic.
  • To the Sea. We drive to a quiet village by the Indian Ocean. Here, big waves hit the high cliffs.
  • Seafood Dinner. We end the day with fresh fish caught that day, grilled right on the beach.
Day 8 – Jungle River & Hidden Beach

  • Morning Boat or SUP Ride. Glide through a jungle river surrounded by lush green forest.
  • Personal Recharge. The afternoon is open for coastal living. Whether you choose to catch a wave during a surf session, indulge in a local spa ritual, or simply find a quiet spot on the sand, the ocean is yours.
Day 9 – Rest by the Ocean & Return to Yogyakarta
  • Ocean Energy. A final morning to walk the cliffs or swim in the tide. It’s a time to soak in the ocean’s energy before we head back to the city.
  • Transfer to Yogyakarta.
  • Farewell Dinner. Our last dinner together in a special place in the city. We share our stories and say goodbye to the island.
Day 10 – A Sweet Goodbye

  • Morning. Enjoy our last breakfast together.
  • Chocolate Story. Visit a local chocolate museum and factory — from cocoa bean to bar. Learn how real Javanese chocolate is made, taste it, and take some home as a souvenir.
  • Departure. Check out and travel home — or continue your journey to Bali (just a one-hour flight away).
What to Know Before You Go
Before joining the journey, it’s important to understand that Java is tropical, wild, and wonderfully unpredictable.
Here are a few things to keep in mind so your adventure becomes one of your best
Active Itinerary
We’ll be walking a lot — through mountains, villages, and uneven trails. A good level of fitness will help you enjoy it fully.
Tropical Climate
It’s hot, humid, and the weather can change within minutes — that’s part of Java’s rhythm.
Bold Flavors
Most meals are local — full of spices, colors, and character. Western options are available, but Javanese food is a big part of the experience.
Accommodation
Comfortable but authentic. Think “boutique adventure,” not “all-inclusive resort.” You’ll sleep well — but you’ll know you’re in Indonesia.
Unpredictable Java
Roads, weather, and plans can shift. That’s the beauty of it — Java rewards those who travel with an open heart.
